DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATION
In 2008 The Department of Conservation embarked on a Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction Plan that aimed to lower emissions and reduce off-grid diesel generator use.
As a lead supplier on this sustainable energy project, Power Technology has installed eight solar power systems around New Zealand – many of them as far afield as Stewart Island and the Chatham Islands.
During the course of the project to date, Power Technology has installed more than 90kW of photovoltaic solar panels.
Emissions savings lead to cost reductions
Although the primary goal of the project was to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the Department was also able to generate significant energy cost savings as well.
This was achieved primarily by switching from costly diesel generators to the new solar power solution.
